SEC Approves Nasdaq Bitcoin Index Options

2026-05-23 listing BTC

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has given the green light for Nasdaq to list Bitcoin index options on the exchange. The options will be cash-settled and European-style, trading under the ticker QBTC on the Phlx exchange.

While the SEC's approval is a significant step, the options still require approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) before trading can begin. If approved, this could be a major development for Bitcoin, potentially increasing institutional investment and providing more trading options for investors.

Key details include the options being cash-settled, meaning they will be settled in cash rather than Bitcoin, and European-style, meaning they can only be exercised at expiration. The listing on Phlx, a subsidiary of Nasdaq, is also notable, as it could increase visibility and accessibility for the options.
